Corporate Overview

PortVision is a service of AIRSIS, Inc., a maritime technology company that has provided innovative solutions to a wide range of customers for over 10 years. Our PortVision service provides web-based visibility and reporting of commercial vessel activities within ports and inland waterways. Our customers use PortVision to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance safety and security.

We began twelve years ago with a focus on providing software and satellite-based solutions to help our clients perform more effectively. In 2000, we were asked to apply our technology to the Houston ship channel to optimize the collaboration and scheduling of tanker traffic within the Port of Houston. By 2003, waterway users relied on this technology to optimize scheduling and communications for over 60% of all tanker activities in the region.

Changing the business of maritime

In 2005, the US Coast Guard mandated all commercial vessels to continuously transmit collision-avoidance signals (also known as Automated Identification System or AIS) throughout US ports and inland waterways to improve safety and security. At this time, AIRSIS saw an opportunity to leverage AIS information to dramatically improve how maritime business is done. AIRSIS launched PortVision in 2006, and since then, virtually every major oil company and many marine service providers, vessel operators, and government agencies have relied on PortVision to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and increase safety and security.

PortVision users can:

  • Reduce demurrage costs (i.e. penalty payments incurred for delaying a vessel at a terminal)
  • Provide timely access to information for all waterway users
  • Provide visibility of waterway traffic to all stakeholders
  • Allow for collaboration between stakeholders to reduce delay
  • Collect objective data to drive decision-making, policies, and procedures
  • Analyze and manage major incidents
  • Drive regulatory and customer/partner compliance
  • Enhance Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA)
  • Support homeland security and law enforcement activities

PortVision provides new levels of knowledge and transparency to maritime activities within ports and inland waterways using both AIS and satellite signals. The service provides both real-time vessel locations as well as historical information to allow users to get up-to-date visibility of vessel activities and receive alerts when events of their particular interest occur. Historical playback and reporting features also offer expanded opportunities to identify best practices and enhance Maritime Domain Awareness, as well as better communicate with customers and partners. The service was first deployed along the U.S. Gulf Coast and now covers many major U.S. ports and inland waterways.
