USCG AIS Rule Deadline - March 1st 2016

Posted by Chris Leslie

Last January, the USCG published a new rule requiring most commercial vessels operating in US waters to have a fully operational USCG certified AIS transciever on board at all times.  The new rule became effective March 2nd, 2015 and the deadline to be in compliance is today, March 1st, 2016.  Fines for ignoring this requirement can cost up to $40,000. For more information you can read our previous blog, AIS Legislation Watch: New US Rules in 2015, or visit the USCG website AIS Requirements page here

The following graphic breaks down the vessel types involved and which AIS transceiver is right for you.
